HYPNOTHERAPY

Hypnotherapy simply means using a range of therapeutic tools whilst you are absorbed in a state of hypnosis to create the changes you want.

Hypnosis is a natural state with which you are already familiar. It is similar to the state of absorption you experience when watching a good film, engrossed in a book or some music where you might lose track of time, when travelling from one place to another and you have little memory of the journey, the dreamy kind of state you go into before falling asleep, and the similar state you are in before you come fully awake.

During the session, I help you access this state simply by talking to you. You will hear what I say and will likely just feel relaxed. Imagination is often used during a hypnotherapy session and I might ask you to imagine certain things related to what we are working on – sometimes known as mental rehearsal. At other times, I might simply talk to you. Here I am making post-hypnotic suggestions.

INTEGRAL EYE MOVEMENT THERAPY

Integral Eye Movement Therapy is a very flexible methodology that enables us to neutralise distressing memories, troubling emotions such as anger, guilt, sadness to name a few, deal with anticipatory feelings, such as for an upcoming interview, and has an effective method of dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder.

It has long been known that when memories and their accompanying emotions are laid down that eye movements are involved. By asking you to follow my fingers whilst holding onto a certain memory, I am interrupting the eye movement pattern that has been part of the formation of that troubling memory. In this way, the emotion can dissipate.

Integral Eye Movement Therapy also recognises that often emotional difficulties are held in place by what are known as patterns of chronicity of which people are usually unaware. These are addressed too so that a person can more easily access their preferred emotional state.

When we have a problem, usually there are several aspects to it and Integral Eye Movement Therapy has the flexibility to identify and modify them.

METAPHORS OF MOVEMENT

Metaphors of Movement (MoM) is an approach that enables us to look at how and where a person is stuck. We all use metaphors in our language all the time. We might say things like “banging my head against a brick wall”, “can’t see the wood for the trees”, “light at the end of the tunnel” and so on.

We hold our own stuck points as metaphors which with some specific kinds of questioning, I can draw out and literally draw on paper so you can really see what is going on for you. Then you are more easily able to see how you are keeping yourself stuck and how you might make the change you want.
